Calla sighed heavily as she walked into the library. She adjusted her overloaded backpack, hoping to ease the strain on her shoulders. The bag settled back on her shoulders no more comfortable for the attempt. She frowned deeply, rushing forward in hopes of finding a table and getting rid of her burden. Her increased pace came at the cost of being even more unaware of her surroundings and she ended up walking straight into the back of a chair. The seat was, quite fortunately, unoccupied. Sliding her bag from her shoulders she gratefully sank into the wooden chair
She took a moment to stretch out the sore muscles in her back, rolling her shoulders in an attempt to rid them of the stiffness that had settled in during her short walk from class to the library. The relief was slight, but enough to allow her to focus her mind on the task at hand. A quick reach into her bag yielded her biology textbook. She set the book on the table in front of her, flinching at the thumping sound the heavy book made.
It took longer than she would have liked to find the page she was searching for and longer still to find out where she had left off at the end of her last study session. After re-reading most of the page she found her spot and settled into a more comfortable position in the chair. She read slowly, fingers inching across the page as she tried to absorb what she was reading. More than once she had to back up and re-read a word or two. The slow process was incredibly frustrating to Calla, who was used to finishing her assigned readings much more quickly than her classmates. Now, though, she was by far the slowest. Most of her time outside of class was now spent on reading. Her assignments were rushed, the quality of her work having fallen sharply since her arrival at Sententia. As if starting at a new school wasn't difficult enough she had been forced to do so with the cards stacked against her. The tediousness of daily life was starting to wear on her.
Yawning widely, Calla rubbed a hand across her face. Her eyelids had started to droop, an intense sleepiness having settled over her since her arrival in the quiet library. She hadn't been sleeping well for nearly a week, schoolwork keeping her up until all hours. Her visions were becoming more frequent as well, invading her waking hours at the most inopportune times. She had missed nearly twenty minutes earlier in the day, drifting into the future, only to find herself back in biology. The most frustrating part was that not only did she miss out on an important biology lecture, but she couldn't for the life of her remember what she had seen.
Frown deepening, she all but slammed her textbook shut. There had to be some way to make everything easier. There had to be some way to get her work done without losing sleep. There had to be some way to make her way about the school without getting lost or, worse, running into her surroundings. Frustrated tears pricked behind her eyes, threatening to overflow. Crossing her arms over the top of her textbook she dropped her head down to rest atop them, hiding her face. Things were just moving too fast.
